You are more precious than silver

The other day I found my self feeling sad. I came across a ministry that was sharing good Catholic things in a beautiful way. I was amazed. But instead of being happy for them and their great work they were doing for God’s Kingdom, I became sad. Why?

Thoughts came to my head that "I need to be like that” and “why am I not”. Ultimately, I began thinking that I was less worthy but expected to be at their level. This sadness is what jealousy and envy can do when we compare ourselves to others and aren’t glad for other’s accomplishments as if they are your own. It sounds funny writing about it, but this happens to all of us. Have you had this?

Have you ever heard the song called “More precious than silver?” Hearing this song about how precious, costly and beautiful the Lord is something I found so touching. I encourage you to listen to the song by Steffany Gretzinger here

There is a moment of rescue when we see the truth through God’s eyes. The Lord sees me as beautiful, as worthy, as successful but often not as the world sees it. He sees me as His child, one who is worthy and unconditionally loved. He sees you the same way. We are made in the image of God and are wonderfully made. If we see God as so precious and realize that He too lives within us and we are made in His image, we will then come to love ourselves in a wholesome  way.

This morning I took my daughter to preschool and asked her if she wanted to listen to the song “more precious than silver” and not only did we listen and sing but she asked to hear it again. I then told her the meaning of the song and how God is more precious and beautiful than anything even diamonds. She said “Dad, I think Mary is my favorite.” I thought for a minute and saw how right she was to hear that God is most beautiful and think of a Saint and especially Mary. The Saints are part of God and what we Love about God we can honor in the Saints since we are part of the Mystical Body of Christ.

It should be natural to see God’s worth and lead to the worth of others, the Saints and even ourselves. In a world where we lose our sense of worth and even compare ourselves, we should be reminded that God is AMAZING therefore we, as the body of Christ are AMAZING as well.

If God is precious then so am I. I can realize my inherent worth and that others have this as well. I don’t need to be sad at others but rejoice because they have that Divine image within them too!
