Saint Joseph was born in 1603 in Cupertino. His mother said that he was a nuisance and treated him harshly because he was slow to learn and absentminded. His mom sent him to ask the Franciscans to be a servant for them. He worked at being careful and the others were impressed with his simplicity and piety. They finally allowed him to enter their order. During his exams for diaconate he was asked exactly the thing he knew and became a deacon and then a priest. Soon after, the Holy Spirit gave him special gifts of levitation which happened over 70 times. He fell so in love with God that everything he saw filled him with emotion and deeper connection with God. People flocked to him to gain advice and direction in the confessional. Saint Joseph became so popular that eventually, he was suspected for witchcraft and after being investigated by the inquisition, his superiors kept him from seeing the public, which Saint Joseph of Cupertino appreciated and obeyed because he could spend his time contemplating God.
